The Dalmatian (A Handbook): by Clifford L. B. Hubbard
The Dalmatian (A Handbook): by Clifford L. B. Hubbard (Author) (9781852590406)

We are all familiar with this spotted dog once so useful as a carriage dog. Today the breed remains popular and has many followers in both the show world and as a general house dog. This book is well-illustrated with top class winners including the Supreme Champion at Crufts.

Although the precise origins of the Dalmatian are obscure, there is no doubt that it has a long history dating back to the sixteenth Century or earlier.  The author covers this history as well as modern-day management.

In the nineteenth century they accompanied the carriages of the gentry and became known as the Coach Dogs.  They are agile, loyal and affectionate dogs who fit in well to the family environment.  Since the first edition the breed has won Best in Show at Crufts which obviously raises its prestige as a show dog.  Mrs. E.J. Woddyatt was the owner of the dog CH Fanhill Faune.  Moreover, recently Kennel Club registrations have exceeded 900.

Many photographs supplement the text and in characteristic manner Mr. Clifford L.B. Hubbard has researched the background of the breed.  The book can be recommended to all who are interested in the Dalmatian.
