About the Author: from Quote on back cover

Roger Sweeney has spent several years at various zoological and bird gardens in the United Kingdom. In 1989 he became Livestock Manager at "Birdworld", the United Kingdom's largest bird gardens. While at Birdworld success was achieved with a wide diversity of species, including Parrots, Softbills, Pheasants, Ratites, Penguins, Spoonbills, Wading birds and Birds of Prey.  The Eclectus Parrot has been bred at Birdworld consistently over the last 10 years and considerable work has been carried out into its incubation and neo-natal care. In 1993 Roger became a full time consultant at "Birds International", one of the world's largest breeding and research centers located in the Philippines. This facility houses what is surely the world's largest collection of captive Eclectus Parrots! While at "Birds International" Roger was also responsible for the management of some of the world's rarest birds including the Spix Macaw, Mount Apo Lorikeet, Sumba Hornbill and Palm Cockatoo. As of mid 1994 Riger has been retained as a consultant to "Loro Parque".

Good Bird! A Guide to Solving Behavioral Problems in Companion Parrots!: by Barbara Heidenreich (Author)
Good Bird! A Guide to Solving Behavioral Problems in Companion Parrots!: by Barbara Heidenreich (Author) (9781895270273)

Chapters include Preparing the Companion Parrot Owner, Screaming, Biting, Bonding to One Person, Cage Bound Bird, and Feather Picking.

Training is a form of teaching. The companion parrot learns when the trainer positively reinforces (or rewards) each small step the subject takes towards the desired behavior. Using the principles described in training, it becomes easy to teach birds what is the desired response. The beauty of training using positive reinforcement is that it works! In this book the author prepares the trainer in the first chapter. She then describes some typical problem behavior scenarios experienced by companion parrot owners. She then provides an explanation as to why the behavior may be occurring and offers a step-by-step explanation of how to address the problem behavior using training techniques based on positive reinforcement.

Barbara Heidenreich has been a professional in the field of animal behavior since 1990. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology she began her career teaching birds to present natural behaviors in zoos. In her fourteen years of working for various zoos, companies, and as an independent consultant, Barbara has been involved in the production of over fifteen different free flight bird presentations. Currently the President Elect of the International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators she is now a private animal training consultant working with zoological parks, nature centers, and the companion parrot community. Barbara hopes everyone can experience that truly rewarding relationship that can happen when animals are trained using positive reinforcement.

Parrots in the Wild: by Cliff Moon (Author)
Parrots in the Wild: by Cliff Moon (Author) (9780850786064)

Many people like parrots because of their brightly colored feathers. But, wild parrots use their colours for a purpose - to frighten enemies, attract other parrots, and to help them see each other in dark forests.  Most parrots live in the forest of tropical countries, but, some breeds live in cooler countries.

Pet parrots often learn to imitate sounds around them, such as people talking.  Wild parrots make alot of noise, whistling and chattering to each other.  This book will tell you about parrots and their day-to-day lives in the wild.

Parrot Sense: by John Doole (Author)
Parrot Sense: by John Doole (Author) (9781895270143)

How to protect your bird from aviculturists, nutritionists, and the merely expert! Filled with practical advice on birdkeeping. Refreshingly original and funny.

"These days we see the publications of more and more specialist parrot titles, ie, those covering one group, such as cockatoos, or one aspect, such as hand-rearing. The more specialized a title, the less space it usually devotes to the basics of parrot keeping. Many of these basics had to be learned the hard way - and the birds were the losers. But this wonderful book from the often - amusing pen of John Doole concentrates almost totally on the basics with a text which is liberally sprinkled with delightful an witty sketches. Not only is it fun to read - it sis completely filled with practical l advice with coverage of each subject (from which kind o water to give your birds to ringing chicks) which is perhaps more thorough than than contained in any other parrot book I have read. Neither does it suffer from hackneyed repetition; it is refreshingly original.

Many parrots are destined to benefit from this book at a time when it is increasingly important than high standards of care should become universal for captive parrots, many of which are threatened with extinction in the wild." -- Foreword by Rosemary Low , Gran Canaria 1992.
