Overview:
A One Loft Race should provide a venue that gives every participating bird an equal opportunity to win. Of course, not all birds are created equal, so not everyone will win a prize. It is up to us to make sure your experience is as enjoyable and memorable as possible. That is what we at the Salem Special OLR , One Loft Race, strive to provide every year.
Over the past decade, there have been very few One Loft Races available for fanciers in Canada to participate in regularly so I am delighted to advise that long-time racing pigeon enthusiasts Rick and Linda Broere, who for two years operated the “Empire Classic Triple Crown” have now founded a marvelous new race located between Colborne and Brighton, Ontario which is situated in a beautiful, rural setting on the north shore of Lake Ontario in what is often, locally, referred to as the Northumberland Hills. This pristine rural area is essentially the heart of the apple-growing region of Ontario, approximately 140 or so kilometers from Toronto.
Recently, I had the occasion to speak to Rick regarding his new venture, the founding and operating of a professional yet affordable one loft race in Ontario. I asked Rick, “Why the new race,” given that you were successfully operating the “Empire Classic Triple Crown” from the location and lofts of the original Empire Classic? Rick took some time, thought about his answer, and replied calmly.
“We’ve enjoyed the whole endeavor immensely, but, and there is always a but, no matter how successful we are, it will always belong to someone else and to be working this hard and carrying this much stress, you want it to be your own. Our apprenticeship is over. We have learned not only what to do’s but, more importantly, what not to dos. It is now time to strike out on our own, and we are pleased to announce “The Salem Special” ~ Rick Broere
